The 2015 Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women China Student Challenge provides students who are registered at universities in China, and are due to graduate in 2017, with a unique opportunity to demonstrate their analytical, creative and strategic thinking by presenting innovative solutions to one of two business challenges.
Each challenge has been set by a business participant in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women initiative, providing the opportunity for students to positively impact the success of an established business.
Six finalists will be invited to present their ideas at our Beijing office, and the top two category winners will have guaranteed interviews for the 2016 Goldman Sachs Asia Summer Internship Program. The overall winning team will also receive individual Apple Macbook Air? laptops.
All finalists attending the Award Ceremony will receive a certificate of achievement.
Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women
The 10,000 Women initiative was launched in 2008 by the Goldman Sachs Foundation, providing more than 10,000 women from across 43 countries with business and management education, mentoring and networking.
10,000 Women has supported women from countries as diverse as Brazil, China, Egypt, India and Liberia, through a network of 90 academic and nonprofit partners. More than 30 of the world’s leading business schools have participated in the program. The initiative is founded on research conducted by Goldman Sachs – Womenomics and Women Hold up Half the Sky – the World Bank and others which suggests that such an investment can have a significant impact on GDP growth.
HOW THE STUDENT CHALLENGE WORKS
Students are invited to come up with an innovative solution to one of two business challenges detailed below. Submissions will be judged on the demonstration of the following:
- Creativity
- Innovation
- Analytical Skills
- Strategic Thinking
- Practical Implementation & Commercial Viability
Please submit both an A4-size one-page document outlining your ideas AND a one-minute video clip. Late submissions will not be reviewed. Finalists will be notified by email by no later than Friday, May 22, 2015. All finalists will be invited to attend an awards ceremony at the Goldman Sachs Beijing office in early June 2015. Finalists will be expected to present their ideas to a panel of judges with category and overall winners announced that day.
Your ideas must be based on the challenges outlined in the information below. You may use all publicly available information as part of your research. Please refrain from contacting any employees of the business.

WHO CAN ENTER
The Student Challenge is open to students who will graduate from their degree course in 2017 and who are currently registered and studying at a university in China through the end of 2016. Students from all degree disciplines and backgrounds are encouraged to enter. Submissions must be made on behalf of a team. Teams should consist of a minimum of two students and maximum of four students.

THE TWO BUSINESS CASES
The two 10,000 Women female entrepreneurs participating in the Student Challenge are offering students the opportunity to positively impact their businesses by creating innovative ideas to help solve their business challenges.
HANGZHOU ACOSOUND TECHNOLOGY CO. LTD.
· Case Profile – Xiuping is the general manager of Hangzhou Acosound Technology Co. Ltd. Established in 2009, her company develops, produces and sells digital hearing aid equipment. Its star product, Acosound, has become the best-selling and leading invisible hearing aid brand in China. Xiuping has a strong R&D team and her products are highly competitive, even with foreign counterparts.
· Business Challenge – Hangzhou Acosound is dedicated to becoming an influential hearing aid brand in the electronic medical device industry. How should it strengthen and develop its brand marketing model?
DAYAO MIYILU ETHNIC ARTS CRAFTS CO. LTD.
· Case Profile – Jun is the general manager of Dayao Miyilu Ethnic Art Crafts Co. Ltd. She founded this Yi ethnic embroidery design and manufacturing business in 2009. Her products include handmade clothes, handbags, and crafts with Yi embroidery features. Jun’s business is one of the biggest in the local industry, and the only one which operates the full value chain from design to production and sales. Her product received the UNESCO Award of Excellence for Handicrafts in 2013.
· Business Challenge – 80% of Dayao Miyilu products are currently sold to local Yunnan customers through brick and mortar retail stores. The business would like to expand its consumer base globally. What kind of e-commerce strategy can the company implement to expand its market?
