题 目:Meeting the Fundamental Human Needs with Information and Cummunication Technologies (ICTs)

主讲人:Professor ZHANG Ping, Syracuse University

摘 要:

More than one ICT devices/systems, more than one use context, more than one reason to use, and more than one designated time of using, these are just some of the recent trends of humans interacting with ICTs. Such trends challenge the exiting theoretical frameworks on ICT acceptance, use, and design, and call for new perspectives and theoretical foundations. In this talk, Dr. Zhang will present a research in progress that takes a truly human-centered perspective. Drawing from three distinct disciplines: Law, Psychology and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), a process model of motivation is developed that starts with the innate human needs and desires (named primitive motives), progresses to factors that lead to behavioral intentions and behaviors. The promises of the motivation model include addressing both approaching and avoidance behaviors, addressing the learning aspect with a feedback loop from behavior to primitive motives, and functioning as the first step toward a design theory of desirable ICTs that can meet the challenges of multi-devices/systems, multi-contexts, multi-purposes, and pervasive use.
