ABSTRACT

Using data collected from both the People’s Republic of China and United States, this study examined cross-cultural differences in the relationships between LMX differentiation and both individual and group performance. We found that the while high LMX differentiation can be beneficial to American teams it is detrimental to Chinese teams, lowering individual performance and OCB. Team collectivism fully accounted for these different relationships between LMX differentiation and individual and group performance in US and P.R.C.
